SC issues notice to Mah govt for use of loudspeaker by pol parties

New Delhi, Nov 26 (UNI) The Supreme Court today issued notice to the Maharashtra government asking it to explain why political rallies were allowed to use loudspeaker at Juhu Beach in Mumbai while people were not allowed to use the public address system to control the crowds during the Chhath puja.

A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justices R V Raveendran and J M Panchal issued notice after hearing senior counsel Arun Jaitley appearing for the petitioner, Bihari Front who contended that loudspeakers were required for better management of the crowds and also helpful from the security point of view.

Earlier, the apex court had declined to give permission for the use of the loudspeaker during the Chhath puja celebrations this year.
