Puducherry, Nov 26 (UNI) In a bid to control prices, the administration would import 30,000 metric tonnes of cement before January, Minister for Agriculture and Industries V Vaithilingam said here today.

Talking to newspersons after disbursing Rs 39.61 lakh to those who lost their crops in the recent storm, Mr Vaithilingam said the Centre had also given permission for importing cement.

The administration had taken steps to put an end to the scarcity of fertilisers and already 500 tonne of urea had reached here.

Another 2,000 tonne of urea and 3,000 tonne of composite manure would be reaching Puducherry in a week's time.

Mr Vaithilingam said five new ''uzhavar udaviyagams'' would be set up shortly while two more ''uzhavar sandais''(farmers market) would be started at Ariyankuppam and Muthialpet.

The Minister also said applications for 'precision farming' was already being issued and those interested could approach KVK, Agriculture Department and the Minister's office.
