Orissa Assembly adjourned for day after obituary reference

Bhubaneswar, Nov 26 (UNI) The Orissa Assembly was adjourned for the day today after paying rich tributes to Laxmipur MLA and former Minister Anantaram Majhi who died here yesterday following a massive heart attack.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik moved the obituary reference in the House just after it assembled for the day.

Cutting across party lines, the members expressed shock over the demise of Majhi and expressed their condolences to the bereaved family members.

Condoling his death, Mr Patnaik said Majhi was a great tribal leader and fought for the interest of the tribals. His death was an irreparable loss to the state as well as to his family, the Chief Minister added.

Leader of Opposition J B Patnaik, Revenue Minister and BJP leader Manmohan Samal,JMM leader Bimal Lochan Das, N Narayan Reddy of CPI, NCP leader Utkal Kumar Parida and Mr Sambunath Naik(IND) besides Speaker Maheswar Mohanty also condoled the death of Majhi and described him as a great adivasi leader who dedicated his life for the cause of the tribals.

The House also observed one minute silence in memory of Mr Majhi.
