KU confers honorary D Lit on Ranbir Hooda

Chandigarh, Nov 26 (UNI) Kurukshetra University (KU) today conferred the honorary degree of D Lit on Mr Ranbir Singh Hooda, only surviving member of the Constituent Assembly of India and veteran freedom fighter.

The honorary degree was conferred by Vice-Chancellor of Kurukshetra University Prof R P Hooda at a specially organised function at Rohtak on the occasion of birthday of Ch Ranbir Singh, who is father of Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said his father had always upheld political and social values and this aspect of his life had been very inspiring.

He said his father held various political positions but he never acted against any of his opponents nor did he ever thought ill of them.

The Chief Minister said his father felt hurt whenever there had been deterioration of political values. He said his father was keen that how we could create a new India where there would not be poverty, illiteracy, unemployment and hunger.

He said in his fight to ensure that the people get their due, his father had been to eight different jails, including four in Pakistan.

Mr Hooda said that it was a historic day today as not only his father was born on this day, but the nation had also adopted its Constitution on this very day.

He said he was proud of his father who was the youngest member of the Constituent Assembly, he added.

Those present on the occasion included Health Minister Kartar Devi, Political Advisor to Chief Minister, Prof Virender Singh, a number of MLAs, Congress leaders and officers of the district administration.
