Kidnappings not new in AP: DGP

Warangal, Andhra Pradesh, Nov 26 (UNI) Director General of Police (DGP) S S P Yadav today said kidnappings in Andhra Pradesh were not new as they had been happening for the last several decades.

Speaking to newspersons here on the sidelines of a State Police Duty Meet, Mr Yadav said ''the media is highlighting only kidnapping incidents and not on the number of occurrences taking place.'' To a query, the DGP said he had discussed with City Police Commissioner Balwinder Singh the issue of increasing kidnapping cases in Hyderabad and steps would be taken to check them.

Mr Yadav also said intelligence failure was not responsible for the August 25 twin blasts and May 18 Mecca Masjid Blasts in the capital.

''We are adopting strategies to counter the terrorist activities and check the infiltration of terrorists from other states. However, we will not disclose our strategies to the media.'' UNI
