Jaya's counsel seeks anticipatory bail

Chennai, Nov 26 (UNI) AIADMK Supremo J Jayalalithaa and her counsel N Jothi today moved the Madras High Court, seeking anticipatory bail, apprehending arrest by the CID.

In his petition, Mr Jothi submitted that the state police might file a case against him on a complaint that he had ''misused'' the government money for attenting the proceedings before the Cauvery Tribunal.

The complainant had stated that though he was not officially appointed as the government counsel to argue the case before the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal, he had availed accommodation in the Tamil Nadu House in New Delhi and claimed money for his air trips.

In his petition, Mr Jothi contended that such ''mischievously'' made claims were wholly ''misleading'' and ''unjustified''.

Two writ petitions already were pending before the High Court in this regard but the government was trying to ''harass'' him, Mr Jothi said.

When the petition came up for hearing before Justice T Sudanthiram, the public prosecutor N R Elango, denying Mr Jothi's ''averments'', said, ''till now the government had not filed any case against Mr Jothi.'' The Judge adjourned the case to November 29 for further hearing.
