Independents hold sway in Trimbakeshwar Municipal Council

Nashik, Nov 26 (UNI) Independents have emerged key players in the 17-member Trimbakeshwar Municipal Council which was held by the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance for the last ten years.

Elections were held yesterday and the results declared today.

The Shiv Sena and BJP contested the elections on their own as they could not arrive at an agreement on the seat-sharing.

The independents have won the maximum number of seats - 8, the BJP - 4, Shiv Sena - 2, Congress - 2 and NCP has won one seat.

Out of the total 6,867 voters, as many as 5,679 had excercised their franchise in the elections. As many as 87 candidates were in fray for the 17 wards.

Meanwhile, in the Igatpuri Municipal Council, out of the 19 wards, voting took place for 13 seats yesterday, and voting is being held for four seats today. Elections to two seats were not held as the candidates had won unopposed there.

As many as 48 candidates were in fray for the 13 seats and out of total 13,986 voters, 9,863 exercised their franchise.
