Hong-Kong-based DFS Group bags duty free retail contract

Mumbai, Nov 26 (UNI) Hong-Kong-based DFS Group has acquired the contract for duty free retail at the Mumbai International Airport, Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) said today.

Announcing this, MIAL Managing Director G V Sanjay Reddy said, ''Duty free shopping is a significant component of passenger experience at any airport. We would like to provide passengers at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) a truly world-class shopping experience across brands, product variety and price points.'' According to MIAL, the DFS Group will be responsible for designing and building a shopping environment, sourcing a wide range of international luxury brands and developing a strong promotional strategy for duty free shopping, at the Mumbai International Airport.

DFS will start operating the new duty free area from January 2008, the company informed.

Located in the International Terminal-2C at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, the duty free shopping area will be spread across 24,541 sq ft, of which 14,585 sq ft will be at the departure level, 8,395 sq ft at the arrival level while 1,560 sq ft will be for storage.

The DFS Group is one of the world's leading luxury retailers and operates more than 150 shops at major airports in Asia Pacific and North America including Singapore Changi, Hong-Kong, Sydney, Auckland, New York JFK, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Honolulu. The Group also operates 14 luxury Gallerias in key locations.
