Cabinet nod to Rs 100 cr National Disaster Response Fund

New Delhi, Nov 26 (UNI) The Union Cabinet today gave approval for the setting up of a Rs 100 crore National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF).

The Cabinet also cleared the merger of the National Contigency Fund with NDRF with effect from April 1, 2010, Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told reporters after the Cabinet meeting.

NDRF will be under the administrative control of the Home Ministry.

This will unify the funding mechanism for disaster response and relief under one fund to be constituted under the Disaster Management Act, 2005.

It will enable the National Executive Committee under the chairmanship of the Home Secretary/Secretary, in-charge of Disaster Management, to meet the expenses for emergency response, relief and rehabilitation in the wake of disasters.
