Guj Govt appoints Sharma as JCP of Ahmedabad
Gandhinagar, Nov 25 (UNI) Complying with the Election Commission's directive, the Gujarat Government today appointed Satish Sharma as the Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP) of Ahmedabad city.
The EC had sent directive to the Government yesterday to appoint Mr Sharma as JCP, Ahmedabad, latest by Sunday evening.
Earlier, the Government had rejected the EC's selection of Mr Sharma as JCP, Ahmedabad, on grounds that it was not complying with its own norms of not repeating officials in the same posts served by them during the post-Godhra riots in 2002.
However in its response, the EC said that it has 'every right' to appoint any official it finds suitable.
''The EC can always make exceptions if it finds any officer as better choice for any place and post,'' EC sources said.
