Kochi, Nov 25 (UNI) Alleging that the Congress and its allies had failed to protect the minorities in India, BJP Minority Morcha All India General Secretary Abdul Rasheed Ansari today said the future of minorities was safe in the hands of the saffron party.

Speaking at the inaugural function of the Morcha's State Convention here, Mr Ansari said, '' The BJP, during its regime, had chalked out various constructive policies for the development of the minorities and rural sector.'' Mr Ansari reiterated that the BJP was a secular party and its concept of secularism was not different from that enshrined in the Constitution.

The problems of the minorities can be solved only by formulating pro-active policies and not by appointing committees like Sachar and others, he said.

''The party rejects the Sachar Committee as it was just a portrayal of the miserable conditions of the minorities in the country,'' he added.

Referring to the Nandigram issue, Mr Ansari alleged that the CPI (M) was trying to take away land from poor farmers, who were minorities, for commercial purposes.

BJP leader O Rajagopal, Morcha State President K V Sabu and General Secretary T O Naushad were present on the occasion.
