TN Govt offers VRS scheme to Dunlop employees

Chennai, Nov 24 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Labour Minister T M Anbarasan today distributed Rs 4.15 crore to 180 employees of the Dunlop factory in Ambattur, who had sought Voluntary Retirement from service.

The factory, which was closed down in 1998, after it became sick, reopened on October 24 last, thanks to the efforts taken by local MP, A Krishnasamy, who is also the President of Dunlop Factory Employees' Union and the support offered by the DMK Government.

After the factory was reopened, 180 employees sought VRS and they were given the retirement benefits by the Minister in the presence of Mr Krishnasamy, in a function held at the factory premises, this evening, an official release here said.

The factory remained closed for eight years and after the DMK came to power in May last year, Mr Krishnasamy took up the matter with the Government, following which, Mr Anbarasan directed the Labour Welfare Commissioner to hold talks with the management.

The Government and the factory management reached an agreement on October 23, after which the factory was reopened the next day.
