Digital technological innovations not justified if not affordable

Panaji, Nov 24 (UNI) Information and Broadcasting Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi today said digital technological innovations will not be justified if their affordability is not ensured.

Inaugurating a conference on Digital Entertainment, Animation, Gaming and VFX organised by the FICCI here, Mr Dasmunsi felt technology transfer and knowledge should keep pace with technological advancements.

He felt the boom in digitalisation will benefit the entertainment industry the most. Most theatres in semi-urban and rural areas cannot afford digitalisation. Expansion of technology is linked to cost. For success of digitalisation, penetration of broadband is neccessary.

Mr Dasmunsi said a single law cannot fight piracy and the campaign against the menace should be justified by affordability for the grassroot person.

He also released a FICCI-PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) report on the Entertainment and Media Industry.
