Six school children injured in police-public clash in Mendhar

Jammu, Nov 23 (UNI) At least six school children got injured in a lathi-charge this afternoon when police and civilians entered into a clash in Mendhar Tehsil of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said.

The clash took place following accommodation of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) battalion in a community hall, situated in village Harni of Mendhar tehsil, which was vacated on the direction of the state government, official sources told UNI.

The CRPF battalion could not be accommodated in tents completely, they added. Thus, few CRPF personnel were asked to stay in the community hall to which people protested and shouted slogans against the government and police.

They demanded that the hall be set free for the locals and the school students.

''We had to use mild lathi-charge on the protestors to restore normalcy but no incident of causality or critical injuries have been reported from the area,'' said a senior police officer.

Meanwhile, around six school children and some civilians received minor injuries during a clash with the police force, who stopped them from forcibly entering the community hall, sources said.
