Panchayat bans playing of DJ music in marriages

Kaithal, Nov 23 (UNI) A village panchayat here has banned the playing of Disc Jockey (DJ) music during functions like marriages saying that it ''caused noise pollution, social conflict and corrupted rural culture.'' The Sirsal village Panchayat of this district has declared that the violator of this diktat would have to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 to the village body.

Justifying the decision, village Sarpanch Hukam Singh said that on number of occasions disputes had arisen during functions due to playing of DJ music which ''disturbed the peace in the area and polluted the rural culture''.

The Sarpanch said that playing of such loud music not only caused noise pollution but many times, due to playing of vulgar songs and dances, womenfolk had to leave such functions in embarrassment.

He asserted that the decision had been taken unanimously by the Panchayat and with the consent of village elders.
