Oppostion members force adjournment of House

Dehradun, Nov 23 (UNI) Opposition party members of the Congress and the Bahujan Samaj Party today disrupted the Uttarakhand Assembly proceedings by staging a sit-in in the Assembly Winter Session seeking action against police personnel who had raided the house of a Congress member.

Congress member from Rudrapur of Uddhamsingh Nagar district Tilak Raj Behad, under privilege motion in Zero Hour, said the incident of police raid in his house on the pretext of searching for a goon had hurt his self-respect.

He demanded that stringent action be taken against the two police personnel involved in the incident.

The Congress and the BSP members trooped into the well in support of Mr Behad demanding immediate termination of the police officers in concern.

Speaker Harbans Kapoor, refering to regulations, said the accused personnel should be given an opportunity to explain their part of the story.

The Speaker asked for a report on the matter to be prsented by today evening and urged the members to take their seats and allow the proceedings in the House.

However, not relenting to the request of the Speaker, they continued sloganeering against the government and staged a sit-in inside the well.

The House business was abrupted for almost one hour.

When the Speaker's repeated plea to the members yeilded no result, he adjourned the House from 1320 hrs till 1500 hrs.
