Heavy fog forces cancellation of 8 flights in Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 23 (UNI) As many as eight flights were cancelled today due to heavy fog cover even as the people in Kashmir braved the coldest night of the season so far with the minimum temperature going further down to minus 4.8 degree Celsius, officials said.

However, they said one Haj and four normal flights took off from the Srinagar airport.

Giving details, the officials said two flights of Jet Airways, one each of Indian, SpiceJet, GoAir, Kingfisher, Jetlite and Deccan got cancelled due to heavy fog cover here.

However, one flight each of Indian, SpiceJet, Jetlite and Deccan and the one carrying Haj pilgrims to Jeddah took off from the Srinagar Airport, but were delayed by several hours due to bad weather conditions here, they added.

Meanwhile, the famed tourist resort of Pahalgam in Kashmir experienced the coldest night of the season so far with the minimum temperature going further down to minus 4.8 degree Celsius there.

The day temperature there stood at 13.6 degree Celsius.

People in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir also braved the coldest night of the season so far with the minimum temperature dipping to minus 3.8 degree Celsius. The maximum stood at 14.3 degree Celsius, weather office here said.
