Bardhan to inaugurate 29th conference of bank employees

Patiala, Nov 23 (UNI) The Communist Party of India general secretary A B Bardhan will inaugurate the 20th two-day conference of All India State Bank of Patiala employees, to be organised by employees federation, from tomorrow.

General secretary of All India State Bank of Patiala employees' federation N K Guar today informed mediapersons that more than 5000 delegates and observers from all parts of the country would participate in the conference.

Mr Gaur said that conference was taking place in the background of the decision by State Bank of India (SBI) management to merge its associate banks, with the process already beginning with the merger of State Bank of Saurashtra with the SBI.

He said that State Bank of Patiala employees would strongly oppose the move to protect the identity of SBP which has completed 90 years of its existence. The bank employees had already observed two-day strike against this move and will go on strike for two more days on December 3 and 4, he said.

Mr Gaur further added that the conference will discuss and resolve to urther intensify its campaign against the pro-corporate policies of the banks which were detrimental to the interest of the common man and increase in foreign direct investment in private banks upto 74 per cent and renewal of cap of ceiling of voting rights, dilution of government stake in equity in Public sector banks, enactment of stringent laws for the recovery of NPAs.

It would also discuss problems and demands of the employees concerning pension, provident fund and appointment on compassionate grounds among others, he said.
