New Delhi, Nov 21 (UNI) The Nandigram issue and the resultant police firing in Kolkata on protestors forced the adjournment of Rajya Sabha for the day today as opposition members disrupted the proceedings demanding a statement by Home Minister Shivraj Patil on the situation.

This was the second successive adjournment on the issue within 35 minutes. The House was first adjourned for 30 minutes and later, after the House re-assembled, for the day as the opposition members disrupted the proceedings.

As soon as the House re-assembled at 1435 hrs after the first adjournment, BJP member S S Ahluwalia was on his feet demanding that the Home Minister come to the House and apprise the members of the situation in the state. He said the Army had been called out in Kolkata and the Home Minister should inform the House what had led to the situation.

Deputy Chairman Rahman Khan, however, said the government had already decided to discuss the issue in the House tomorrow.

Mr Ahluwalia and other BJP members trooped into the well of the House demanding that the Home Minister be called to apprise the members.

The ruckus continued for four minutes after which the Deputy Chairman adjourned the House for the day.
