Pvt equity to help growth of renewable energy sector: study

New Delhi, Nov 21 (UNI) Increased investment and induction of more players will provide a new lease of life to the cash-strapped renewable energy sector of the country, a study said.

A joint study conducted by industry body PHD Chamber and Ernst and Young (E&Y) says that investment patterns have to be structured accordingly in the renewable space with flexibility built in project financing, measurement of Plant Load Factor (PLF) etc, to attract investment.

''While financing renewable energy projects, banks pay more attention to aspects like profitability and sustainability of existing business of promoters along with track record and not on the financials of the renewable energy project alone,'' said PHD Chamber President Sanjay Bhatia.

Focusing on four segments of renewable energy generation ie solar, wind, biomass and waste, the study will form the discussion paper for the forthcoming Conference on Clean Energy and Energy Efficiency being organised by the chamber tomorrow, which would be inaugurated by Minister for New and Renewable Energy Vilas Muttemwar.
