Admn committed to fishermen's welfare: Pondy CM

Puducherry, Nov 21 (UNI) Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy today said his government was committed to the welfare of fishermen.

Addressing a function here, Mr Rangasamy said the Puducherry administration had taken up tsunami relief and rehabilitation works promptly.

The administration had constructed houses for the affected and in places where land was not available, the administration had taken steps to acquire land for the construction of the same.

It had sought a loan of Rs 220 crore from World Bank for the purpose, he added.

Mr Rangasamy said the administration had signed an MoU with Kerala Fisheries Development Corporation for carrying out dredging works at the port estuary.

He said the pension age limit of fishermen was relaxed to 50 from 60.

The administration would also provide life-jackets and other safety equipments to the fishermen, he added.

Education Minister M O H F Shajahan was also present on the occasion.
