AASU demands punishment for extra judicial killings
Guwahati, Nov 21 (UNI) The All Assam Student Union (AASU) today demanded exemplary punishment to all those who have been indicted by the K N Saikia Commission on the extra judicial killing.
Addressing a news conference here, AASU adviser Samujjal Kr Bhattacharya demanded 'quick punishment' to former chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta and his accomplice.
''The Commission is now over and we want harsh punishment for them. The Congress should not play politics with the Commission report and all the indicted politician, police officials and other should be punished immediately,'' he said.
According to him, only quick punishment would bring back faith in the judiciary. To press for early punishment, the AASU announced a sit-in strike and ten-hour fast on November 23 while demanding an inquiry into all the killings that took place from Hiteswar Saikia's regime.
The powerful student organisation also criticised the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) for taking a 'duel stand' on the matter.
