Opposition demands loan waiver for farmers in Maharshtra Assembly
Nagpur, Nov 20 (UNI) The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly was adjourned thrice, for 30 minutes each time, today amid opposition din demanding complete loan waiver for farmers in the state.
Opposition members, several of whom sported saffron caps and some slogans printed on the front of their shirts, trooped into the well of the House shouting slogans, forcing Speaker Babasaheb Kupekar to adjourn the House thrice.
Announcing the third adjournment, Mr Kupekar called the group leaders and the ministers concerned to his chamber to discuss the issue and find a way out of the impasse.
Mr Ganpatrao Deshmukh (PWP) said the House should adopt a unanimous resolution urging the Central government to announce complete loan waiver.
Mr Gopinath Munde (BJP) said the government must apologise to the farmers for its failure to keep its electoral promises and for calling them lazy. ''This government is an enemy of the farmers,'' he said.
Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Harshavardhan Deshmukh reiterated his demand for an apology from Leader of the Opposition Ramdas Kadam for his untoward remarks about the government. Mr Deshmukh said Mr Kadam had made the inappropriate remarks while addressing a Shiv Sena rally here yesterday. The minister also displayed a copy of a newspaper, which, according to him, carried a report about Mr Kadam's statement.
