Nagpur, Nov 20 (UNI) The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly was adjourned for 30 minutes as soon as the question hour commenced today amid opposition din demanding complete loan waiver for farmers in the state.

Opposition members, several of whom sported saffron caps and some slogans on their chests, trooped into the well of the House shouting slogans, forcing Speaker Babasaheb Kupekar to announce the adjournment. The sloganeering began as soon as Mr Kupekar came into the House. Mr Kupekar called out the question hour amid the opposition din.

As the opposition members continued the sloganeering and began to clap their hands, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Harshavardhan Patil said Leader of the Opposition Ramdas Kadam should apologise to the House for certain inappropriate remarks that he had made about the government. However, Mr Patil did not say what statement Mr Kadam had made or where he had made it. ''The remarks were uncalled for in a democratic set-up,'' he added.

Earlier, members of the opposition Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a 'dharna' on the steps of the Assembly Hall here this morning to demand complete loan waiver for farmers and protesting the government's alleged failure in providing succour to the distressed farmers.
