Casualties caused by Naxalism decline in 2007: Jaiswal

New Delhi, Nov 20 (UNI) A total of 1285 naxalite incidents and 571 casualties were reported till October 31 this year as against 1285 incidents and 610 casualties in the corresponding period of 2006, said the Minister of State for Home Affairs Sriprakash Jaiswal in the Lok Sabha today.

In a written reply, Mr Jaiswal said there had been 983 incidents and 467 casualties in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand till October 31 this year as against 1035 incidents and 507 casualties in these states in the corresponding period of 2006.

Regarding damage to property, the naxalites had been observed to be targeting certain types of Government buildings and infrastructure pertaining to road and rail transport and, in some cases, power transmission facilities.
