AIACC adopts resolution in support of Ranchi Community of Andaman

Port Blair, Nov 20 (UNI) The All India Adivasi Co-ordination Committee (AIACC) today adopted a number of resolutions in support of the Ranch community in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in its national conference here.

At a press briefing, president and Assam Minister of Planning and Development Prithivi Majhi said the resolutions included notification of ST status to all tribals, comprising the Munda, Santhali and Oraon Khdrics in the islands, right of full ownership in land, water and forest to tribals, inclusion of their names in the electoral rolls for Loksabha and Panchayat elections.

The national-level resolutions adopted at the conference included stopping the displacement and destruction of Adivasis in the name of development of Special Economic Zones (SEZ), industries and mines and protection and development of tribal languages, Mr Majhi added.

MP and AIACC secretary general Salkhan Murmu, who presided over the conference, informed that the resolutions adopted will be tabled in Parliament for speedy implementation.

Besides, the AIACC's Andaman Branch will be formed to take up the problems of the Adivasis here at the all-India Level, he added.
