Gandhinagar, Nov 20: A whooping 1.87 crore voters will exercise their franchise in the first phase of Gujarat Assembly elections for 87 constituencies, where polling will be held on December 11.
The 1.87 crore voters are spread over 14 districts covering 87 of total 182 constituencies of Gujarat. The polling will be conducted in 40,460 pollings booths, which included 640 new booths, an official release said here yesterday.
In these 14 districts, Election Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) have been provided to 86 per cent of voters so far.
Of the 1.87 crore voters, 93.04 lakh are male voters and 85.62 are female. The second phase of the polling will be held for remaining 95 seats on December 16, the release said.
The first phase election covers 12 seats in Surat with 40.14 lakh voters, 11 seats in Rajkot district with 23.21 lakh voters, ten seats in Junagadh with 17.99 lakh voters, nine seats in Bhavnagar district with 17.76 lakh voters, eight seats in Jamnagar district with 12.95 lakh voters, six Assembly constituencies in Kutch district, which has 11.09 lakh voters, six constituencies in Surendranagar district with 10.43 lakh voters, six seats in Amreli district with 9.30 lakh voters, five seats in Bharuch district with 9.27 lakh voters, five seats in Valsad district with 10.76 lakh voters, four seats in Navsari district with 7.35 lakh voters, two seats in Porbandar with 3.25 lakh voters, two seats in Narmada district with 3.50 lakh voters and one seat in Dang district with 1.99 lakh voters, the release added.
