Parliament pays tribute to Indira Gandhi on her 90th birth annv

New Delhi, Nov 19 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee paid floral tributes at the portrait of late prime minister Indira Gandhi on her 90th birth anniversary in the Central Hall of Parliament House today.

The other dignitaries, who paid homage to the former prime minister, were UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Deputy Chairman Rajya Sabha K Rahman Khan, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha L K Advani and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi, Home Minister Shivraj V Patil, Murli Deora and Suresh Pachouri.

PK Bansal, PR Kyndiah, HR Bhardwaj, Prof Saif-ud-din Soz, BK Handique, Renuka Chowdhury, Subbulakshmi Jagadeesan, K Venkatapathy, EVKS Elangovan and Dr T Subburami Reddy all Union Ministers; Motilal Vora, Prof M S Swaminathan, V Narayanasamy, Prof Ramadass, Dr E M Sudarsana Natchiappan, Shantaram Laxman Naik, Dinesh Trivedi, Jai Parkash Agarwal, Moinul Hassan, Naveen Jindal, R K Dhawan, Syed Shahnawaz Hussain, Krishna Tirath, Kumari Nirmala Deshpande and Ms Prema Cariappa, members of Parliament were among others who paid salutation to the late Congress leader.

Several former members of Parliament also attended the function.

PDTT Achary and VK Agnihotri, Secretaries -General, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha respectively also paid floral tributes.

Booklets containing the profile of Indira Gandhi, brought out both in English and Hindi by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, were also presented to those who attended the function.

Notably, on 19 November, 1987 the then President of India R Venkataraman had unveiled Indira Gandhi's portrait in the Central Hall of Parliament House in recognition of the services rendered by her to the nation.
