Rs 1280 crore for SC, BC families welfare in Punjab

Ludhiana, Nov 18 (UNI) Punjab Minister for Welfare of SCs and BCs Gulzar Singh Ranike today stated that the state government was fully committed for the welfare of the weaker sections and funds amounting to Rs 1280 crore have been earmarked in the current year's plan for this purpose.

Addressing a function organized by Self Reliance Welfare Society here today, he said that the government had also waived off pending loans of 26,000 dalits and economically weaker section amounting to Rs 14 crore.

The government would also bear half of the fee of Scheduled Caste students admitted in nursing training institutes in the state, he said.

Mr Ranike said that the government had also established a dedicated social security fund of Rs 482.46 crore to release regular pensions under various social security schemes.

He further claimed that SAD-BJP government immediately after coming into power had enhanced the amount of grant for the construction of houses for the houseless SC families from Rs 20,000 to Rs 50,000 per unit. The Minister said that the government was fully committed to fulfill all the promises made with the people during the elections.
