ITTO to support Tripura for Jhumia rehabilitation

The
Tripura
forest
department
has
initiated
a
project
for
socio-economic
uplift
of
the
poor
Jhumias
(shifting
cultivators)
from
International
Tropical
Timber
Organisation
(ITTO)
of
China.
Official sources here today said that the state government had appointed a consultant to prepare a project for providing Jhumia rehabilitation through international funding.
A full-fledged hearing session on the project would be held here on November 23 where experts would forward their views on the project and put suggestions for successful implementation of the programme.
The main objective of the project was to reduce the number of shifting cultivators as well as to insist the tribal in eco-sustainable livelihood management, officials added.
