Haryana has 660 gm per capita per day milk

Chandigarh, Nov 18 (UNI) Haryana is the second state of the country having 660 gm per capita per day availability of milk for its people.

While giving this information here today, an official spokesman said that as many as 2605 veterinary institutions were functioning in the state for looking after 94.45 lakh livestocks. He said that as many as 198 new livestock institutions have been opened during the past two years and 60 such new institutions would also be opened during the current financial year.

He said that a number of families in the state were dependant on rearing buffaloes, cows, sheep, goats etc. Hence giving a proper treatment and care to the animal wealth of the state had become very essential.

Keeping in view this object, the spokesman informed that two polyclinics at Bhiwani and Sonepat and one pet animal treatment centre and training hospital at Panchakula were being set up for giving timely treatment to the livestock.

He said that the government has set a target to provide self employment to 3500 unemployed persons through dairying by making a provision of Rs 2.65 crore for the year 2007-08. As many as 10,485 persons during the year 2005-06 and 10,733 persons during the year 2006-07 were trainined in dairying so that they could earn their livelilhood by setting up self employment units.
