New Delhi, Nov 18 (UNI) A delegation of Congress leaders, including Union Ministers Pranab Mukherjee and Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi, today met Congress president Sonia Gandhi and suggested that a high-level team be sent to Nandigram to assess the situation there.

The delegation members, accompanied by their respective general secretaries incharge of their state affairs, also apprised Mrs Gandhi of the latest party developments.

Squarely blaming the West Bengal government for the violence in Nandigram, the AICC, in an omnibus resolution adopted at its session here yesterday, said the Left had placed the interests of its cadres above that of the people and the state administration did not allow the law and order machinery to function professionally.

''The AICC notes with concern the grave situation in Nandigram where the writ of the state government appears to have ceased to run. The AICC condemns the culture of violence and the cult of armed cadres,'' the party said.
