Bangladeshi killed in BSF firing
Agartala, Nov 18 (UNI) A Bangladeshi national died and several others were injured when the BSF fired on a mob at Tillabazar in North Tripura district.
Police today said that the incident occurred yesterday when some miscreants tried to obstruct the jawans while they were deporting five foreign nationals to Bangladesh on a court's directive.
The criminals threw stones at the jawans and objected the deportation claiming that all of them were Indian citizens, police said.
The BSF jawans opened fire on the irate mob in self defence, killing one person on the spot and injuring several others.
The injured were admitted to the Kailashahar District Hospital.
The BSF made extra deployment in the area while senior police officials had rushed to the spot, District Magistrate Santanu Das said.
The force had detained five Bangladeshi intruders on November 15.
They were subsequently handed over to the police.
The court yesterday ordered their push-back. But people of the border villages attacked the jawans and tried to snatch them away, BSF officials stated.
Meanwhile, the local people are observing a 24-hour bandh in north Kailashahar, district headquarters of North Tripura, protesting against the killing.
