Vaiko lashes out at Karunanidhi

Chennai, Nov 17 (UNI) MDMK General Secretary Vaiko today accused Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi of cheating the Tamils.

Speaking to reporters after his release on bail from Puzhal prison, Mr Vaiko had a dig at Mr Karunanidhi for ordering his arrest when he attempted to take out a peace rally to mourn the death of banned LTTE political wing leader S P Thamilselvan, who was killed in an air attack by the Lankan Military.

''By ordering my arrest after eulogising the death of the slain LTTE leader by penning a soulful poem, Mr Karunanidhi had cheated the Tamils'', Mr Vaiko charged.

''Since, we did not expect the government to order our release, we moved the court and obtained bail'', he added.

Mr Vaiko, Tamil Nationalist Movement leader P Nedumaran and 262 others, who were arrested on November 12 when they attempted to take out a rally, defying the ban, to condole the death of Thamilselvan, were granted bail by a court in Chennai yesterday.

They were released today after the copies of the bail orders were submitted to the prison authorities.
