Mah Govt must amend ULC Act: Gidwani

Mumbai, Nov 17 (UNI) Congress leader and former MLA Kanhaiyalal Gidwani today said the Maharashtra Government must amend the Urban Land Ceiling Act in the forthcoming winter session, as without the amendment the housing policy cannot be implemented smoothly.

In a letter written to Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, Mr Gidwani, who is chairman of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee Housing Cell, said the government has already lost two precious years in implementing the same and each day's delay is causing huge damage to the growth and development of the state.

Maharashtra must take maximum advantage of the National Housing and Habitat Policy (2005) to make amendments in the ULC Act as directed in the policy by the government of India. The state must adopt and implement the policy along with supporting the development of the state's infrastructure, he added.

Mr Gidwani further said with this amendment, the souring prices of housing will be checked.
