Army orders probe into youth's killing in Kashmir
Srinagar, Nov 17 (UNI) The Army today ordered an inquiry into the killing of a 22-year-old youth allegedly by soldiers in the Kulgam district of south Kashmir early this morning.
Defence spokesman Lt Col A K Mathur said the Army would conduct detailed investigations into the killing of Reyaz Ahmed Sofi, a baker, at Damhal Hanjipora near Yarikhah in Kulgam district early this morning.
The killing triggered violent protests in the area in which five policemen were critically wounded.
Col Mathur had earlier said Sofi was killed in the crossfire between militants and troops of 9 Rashtriya Rifles (RR).
However, the locals contradicted his statement, saying soldiers fired upon Sofi around dawn today, killing him on the spot.
