Coimbatore blasts: 13 convicts appeal in HC

Thirteen
convicts,
who
were
awarded
14-year
imprisonment
in
the
Coimbatore
serial
bomb
blasts
case,
today
moved
the
Madras
High
Court,
challenging
the
special
court
order
and
seeking
release
on
bail.
Ashraf and 12 others, in their appeal, contended that the trial court judge had convicted them and awarded sentence, without applying his mind they were convicted for offences not committed by them, they submitted and demanded release on bail, stating that they had already served nearly ten years in prison.
Admitting the appeal, a Division Bench, comprising Justices P Murugesan and Periya Karuppaiah, ordered issuance of notice to the CB-CID, Coimbatore, the investigating agency in the case, returnable by two weeks.
