Two blocks in Iraq under legal framework: RIL
New Delhi, Nov 15 (UNI) Mukesh Ambani-run Reliance Industries (RIL) today categorically said it has got the two exploration blocks in the Iraq's troubled Kurdistan region within the legal framework.
Earlier in the day, the Iraqi government has said the RIL had bagged the two oil blocks in the Northern Iraq without Baghdad's approval.
''The two exploration blocks in the Northern Iraq in Kurdistan region for which we have signed the agreements are within the legal framework,'' the RIL said in a statement.
''Our position is very clear. Any company that signs contracts with the Kurdish regional government without approval of the Central Government, they will compromise chances of getting future opportunities in Iraq,'' Iraq Oil Minister Hussain Al-Shahristani was quoted as saying.
Mr Hussain said his government has conveyed this to all the companies that have recently signed production sharing contracts, including Reliance Industries Ltd.
However, the RIL said it has always maintained highest cordial relationship with the government of Iraq.
RIL had struck deal for the 'Rovi' and 'Sarta' blocks with the autonomous Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) last week.
The blocks, measuring 517 and 607 sq km respectively, have almost 80 per cent oil bearing structure.
