Parliament adjourned after paying obituary references

New Delhi, Nov 15 (UNI) Parliament was today adjourned without transacting any business on the opening day of the winter session after the two Houses paid obituary references to sitting members Vijaykumar Khandelwal and K Jana Krishnamurthy as well as other members who passed away during the intersession period.

Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, in his obituary reference, described Khandelwal as a well-known social worker who played a proactive role in the campaigns for the protection of environment and for the betterment of the health and educational facilities for the tribals.

The House also paid tributes to L M Sinhhvi, a member of the 3rd Lok Sabha, as well as a legal luminary and a well known exponent of human rights who was associated with the framing of constitutions of several countries of Asia and Africa.

Others who were remembered were Manjay Lal who represented Samastipur, Bihar, in the 13th Lok Sabha, Yashwant Borole from Jalgaon, Maharashtra (6th Lok Sabha) and Lal Ram Ken from Bayana, Rajasthan (8th Lok Sabha).

In his obituary reference in Rajya Sabha, Chairman Hamid Ansari described former BJP president Jana Krishnamurthy as a very able Parliamentarian and a dedicated social and political worker.

The House also paid tributes to Singhvi, former Karnataka Chief Minister S R Bommai, and memeber from Uttar Pradesh J P Mathur.

Earlier, Mr Francisco Sardinha, who recently won the Mormugao byelection from Goa on the Congress ticket, took oath as member of the Lok Sabha while the Rajya Sabha Chairman introduced the new Secretary General Vivek Kumar Agnihotri to the members before reading out the obituary references.
