Textiles Ministry to conduct survey on screwpine craft of Kerala

Kochi, Nov 14 (UNI) The Union Textiles Ministry will conduct a comprehensive study and survey on 'screwpine craft' of Kerala to document the socio-economic status of the craftspersons and draw up stategies for the development of the craft and welfare of the artisans.

According to an official release here today, the survey was being conducted by the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) through the Kerala Rural Development Agency (KRDA), based in Karunagappaly in Kollam district.

The survey would focus on the socio-economic status of the craftsmen, the concentration areas of the craft and problems, and constraints being faced by the sector.

''The study would enable formulation of schemes and promotion strategies for the development of the craft and welfare of artisans'', the release added.
