International conference on Medical History from Nov 15-17

Mumbai, Nov 14 (UNI) An international conference on Medical History, first of its kind to be held in the country, will get underway at the Indian Merchants Chamber here from November 15 to Nov 17.

As part of the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations of the South Indian Education Society, the conference has been organised by the History Department of SIES college of Arts, Science and Commerce jointly with the Welcome Trust Centre for History of Medicine, UK.

The conference will address the important topics of historical methods from trans-national and cross disciplinary perspective, which will help people to understand the significance of the history of medical science, a spokesperson said.

Besides speakers from India, the conference has 18 international speakers-- from US, UK and Portugal. it will be chaired by eminent Historians from India.

Dr Tony Woods and Dr Elizabeth Shaw of the Welcome Trust, UK will touch upon the Medical Humanities and funding opportunities for scholars based outside United Kingdom.

This event is also intended to help introduce Indian scholars to scholars, attached to the smaller Welcome Trust-funded units in the UK.
