VCK demands immediate release of Vaiko, Nedumaran
Chennai, Nov 13 (UNI) Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) President Thol Thirumavalavan today urged the DMK Government to unconditionally release MDMK General Secretary Vaiko and Tamil Nationalist Movement leader P Nedumaran, arrested for attempting to organise a rally defying prohibitory orders to mourn the killing of LTTE political wing leader S P Thamilchelvan.
In a statement here, he said all the 360 people, including 14 women, who were arrested and lodged in Puzhal Jail yesterday, should be released immediately without any condition.
It was quite humane to pay homage to a departed leader and the Government not granting permission to organise condolence rallies and banning meetings to pay homage to the slain leader was aimed at stifling the human sentiments, he alleged.
Recalling the sentiments expressed by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi through a poem mourning Thamilchelvan's death, Mr Thirumavalavan pointed out the ban imposed on condolence meetings organised by his party and others in Vellore, Chennai and Madurai and wanted the Government to accord permission for taking out silent processions to mourn the killing of the LTTE leader.
