Rice worth Rs 1.74 crore seized at Kakinada Port: Minister

Hyderabad, Nov 13 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Consumers Affairs Minister K Venkatakrishna Reddy today informed the state Assembly that the government had seized rice, worth Rs 1.74 crore, meant for illegal export through Kakinada Port.

Replying to Congress MLA M Gopalakrishna, the Minister said, based on information that rice meant for public distribution was illegally exported through the port, the joint task teams conducted the raids and effected the seizure.

A control room was opened at the office of District Supply Officer, East Godavari to receive information from the public about diversion of rice meant for public distribution, he added.
