Rape accused pushes victim, her child into canal

Mysore, Nov 13 (UNI) In a bizarre incident, an accused in a rape case allegedly pushed the victim and her 11-month-old child into a canal on the outskirts of the city.

Police said the accused Lokesh, working in a welding shop had an affair with an 18-year-old girl, residing close to his house, for nearly five years. He avoided the marriage proposals made by the girl even after she gave birth to his child.

Upset over the refusal, the girl had filed a rape case against Lokesh leading to his arrest. He was later let out on bail.

The accused, who had no intention of marrying the girl, allegedly decided to get rid off her. Last evening he asked the girl to meet him after promising to marry her, provided she withdraws the case.

The accused took the mother and the child on his motorcycle towards Varuna canal under pretext of borrowing money from a friend and pushed them into the canal and escaped from the spot.

The girl survived while her child was washed away. The body of the child was found today, police said, adding they had launched a search to nab the culprit.
