Police exchange fire with naxals in Karnataka
Udupi, Nov 13 (UNI) The police and the Anti Naxalite Force (ANF) during an exchange of fire with naxalites this morning at Kodthugundi in Kundapur taluk in this district have recovered a gun, cartridges and utensils belonging to the insurgents.
Police sources told UNI that during the routine joint combing operations by the Shankaranarayana police and the ANF around 1000 hrs, the team surrounded a six-member armed gang of naxalites including three women and were asked to surrender.
But the naxalites began firing at the combing team who retaliated with exchange of fire, thay said adding said that no one was injured.
All the suspected naxalites, who were camping in the area since last night, escaped in the thick forests leaving behind the gun, some cartridges and utensils.
Intensive combing operation, however continued, they added.
