Lakshmi cheerful, recovering well

Bangalore, Nov 12 (UNI) Lakshmi Tatma, the two year old child from a remote village in Bihar who was operated upon to rid of her parasitic twin has been responding well to the treatment and had begun taking oral semi-solid feeds, Doctors in Sparsh Hospital said today.

The entire Tatma family including parents Poonam, Shambu and brother Mithilesh had been spending a lot of time with Lakshmi over the last couple of days and the child was responding well to this interaction.

Lakshmi is now able to tolerate oral semi-solid feeds. Her clinical and biochemical parameters continue to be within the normal limits. Her invasive monitoring has been removed.

Overall, she has made significant progress in the last 48 hours and is looking cheerful, Dr Sharan S Patil and Dr John who operated upon the baby in a marathon 27-hour effort to separate her from her headless parasitic twin last week, said in a bulletin.

Lakshmi came to the city last month as an ischiopagus twin having two bodies joined at her pelvis. Only one of the twins had a head, while the other was a parasite. Two pairs of legs and arms were formed at either end of the two adjoining torsos, thus appearing as a child with eight limbs.
