Chhota Rajan aide gunned down in police encounter

Mumbai, Nov 12: A notorious robber allegedly owing allegiance to fugitive underworld down Chhota Rajan was eliminated by the Crime Branch sleuths in an encounter near Bandra reclaimation here today.

According to Police officials, Naeem Hyder Sheikh, a resident of suburban Jogeshwari, had come to rob a jewellery shop in suburban Bandra. However, the police was informed about his movement.

''He was spotted and we told him to surrender. However, he tried to escape by opening fire at the police party. In the ensuing gun battle, he was shot dead,'' the officials said.

Later on, his body was taken to the Bhabha hospital for a post-mortem. The slain gangster, according to police, was wanted in several robbery cases registered under Mahim, Bandra, Mira Road and Ghatkopar police stations. Police also said he was arrested last year, but later secured bailed and continued with his criminal activities.
