Big B to inaugurate orthopaedic surgery camp in Mumbai
Mumbai, Nov 12 (UNI) Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan will inaugurate a free children's orthopaedic corrective surgery camp at Leelavati Hospital in suburban Bandra on November 16.
The camp has been organised by the Child Foundation, a brain child of city-based orthopaedic surgeon Dr Ashok Johari.
Initiated in 2001, the camp has seen huge involvement of the medical fraternity from different parts of the country.
The inauguration will be followed by the registration of deserving patients on November 17 and 18. In the camp, over 45 doctors and surgeons from across the country will participate. It is expected that 500-600 patients will be screened and more than 200 surgeries will be undertaken on November 24 and 25 as part of the 8th Free Children's Orthopaedic Corrective Surgery camp, Dr Johari told reporters here today.
He said the camp is meant for underprivileged and less fortunate children suffering from birth defects, spastic problems, unequal size of limbs, polio, paralysis and finger defects.
Dr
Johari
said
''It
is
a
small
but
sincere
effort
in
a
large
country
like
India,
where
there
are
so
many
underprivileged
children,
who
suffer
from
such
deformities
but
have
no
access
to
the
treatment
and
proper
medical
care.
Today,
with
the
availability
of
modern
technologies,
the
children
can
get
a
better
quality
of
life
through
suitable
treatment
options.
Need
of
the
hour
is
to
create
awareness
on
these
issues
with
a
little
bit
of
help
and
support
from
the
medical
fraternity,
charitable
institutions,
individuals,
corporates
and
philanthropic
minds
considering
themselves
as
a
true
part
of
mankind.
One
small
step
taken
in
the
right
direction
can
certainly
help
make
the
society
a
better
place
to
live.''
