Patna, Nov 09 (UNI)The Bihar armed police today recovered a huge cache of explosives and several landmines from a deserted spot on the national highway at Suar Manua village near Sasaram town in the Maoist-affected Rohtas district.

District Superintendent of Police N H Khan told UNI here that acting on a tip off a large contingent of police, along with the bomb disposal squad, rushed to the spot and recovered the landmines, planted near a road bridge. They also seized about 60 kgs of explosives,250 metres of live wire and five detonators. The busy highway is the main arterial road connecting neighbouring Uttar Pradesh.

Suspecting that the landmines and the explosives were planted by the banned CPI(Maoist) to cause a major explosion to mar Diwali celebrations, the SP claimed that timely recovery had everted a damage.

The entire area had been condoned off and a search operation launched.

However,it was yet to be ascertained whether the explosives were RDX.
