Chouhan urges for completion of thermal power projects

Bhopal, Nov 9 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has urged Union Minister for Heavy Industries Santosh Mohan Dev to complete the pending work on the thermal power projects at Birsinghpur and Amarkantak.

Mr Chouhan met Mr Dev at Udyog Bhawan in the national capital yesterday.

Mr Chouhan informed the Union Minister that the work on the Birsinghpur plant was to be completed by 2006 but it had not been completed till date. As a result, only 200 MW of electricity was available whereas 500 MW was supposed to have been produced, an official release said here today.

The Union Minister for Heavy Industries assured the Chief Minister that by December 2007 the work on the plant would be completed and 500 MW of electricity would be available.

The work on the Amarkantak Thermal Power Plant too was supposed to have been completed by June 2007 but it could not be completed within the time limit. The Union Minister promised that this too would be completed by March 15, 2008.

During the discussions, the Chief Minister also invited the Union Minister to formally inaugurate the project when it is completed and he accepted the invitation.

The Union Secretary for Heavy Industries R C Panda and Secretary to the Chief Minister S K Mishra were also present on this occasion, the release added.
